Jobs and Opportunities Event - a success
Glasgow South East Regeneration Agency held the annual Jobs and Opportunities Event on July 30th at the Premier Inn. Out of work local residents from the south east area flocked to see the exhibitors including Morgan Stanley, Community Integrated Care, Strathclyde Police, ASDA and Shaw Trust. And it wasn’t just jobs on the day. There were lots of varied training options available through Learn Direct Scotland and money advice from the Credit Union – everything you need when thinking of getting back into work.
Of the 186 attending the event 65 are currently working with a dedicated advisor at GSERA, looking for work and training help - what a great result!
GSERA's stand was the busiest stall on the day offering advice, jobs to apply for on the spot and varied training options from the Environmental Employability Programme, to Care to Personal Development to Skill to Build. Many people also applied for jobs in the Application Zone and were assisted in filling out forms by trained advisors.
Bubbles the Clown joined in the fun and did some amazing balloon modeling for the kids and SEAL provided relaxing hand massages for the parents.
If you are looking for a job or maybe thinking of doing some training and live in the South East of Glasgow, why not come in and see us? We have offices in Gorbals, Govanhill, East Pollokshields Toryglen and Castelmilk – just call for your nearest office 0800 027 2628.

Breakfast Networking Event
Glasgow South East Regeneration Agency held a Breakfast Networking Event on 29th May 2008 at the Adelphi Centre to promote partnership working. The feedback from the event has been extremely positive. Exciting and new partnerships have been developed as a result of the event, leading to greater partnership working, which was GSERA's aim with the local community and city-wide. This in turn is proving beneficial for all our service users, with the increased partnership working between partners. We were extremely pleased with the turn out, and the enthusiasm the event was greeted with - thank you all for making the event a great success.
A special thank you to our guest speaker, Stephen Callaghan.
The Charity Prize draw was won by Susan Knowles Volunteer Organiser for Volunteer Centre Glasgow, who kindly donated the money to Bliss - the premature babies Charity. Congratulations to Susan and I think we would all agree what a very worthwhile cause.
Following on from the event, GSERA recognises the importance of maintaining these partnerships and linkages and looks forward to hosting future events to encourage and promote joint working.

Value in Volunteering
Congratulations to the volunteers from the Value in Volunteering project who were shortlisted for the Evening Times Local Heroes Awards where they were nominated in the Community Spirit category. The ceremony was held at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock and was attended by over 300 people.
Unfortunately the Value in Volunteering project were pipped at the post by Sunny Govan FM but the volunteers did have a great day which was small reward for the great things they do voluntarily in the community. It made front page of the Evening Times!
If you are interested in a volunteering opportunity in the community, please contact Ann Marie on annmarie.graham@gsera.org.uk

Dog blogs all just part of the service
A woman with a love of pooches has gone barking mad with her new business venture.
Kelly Ann Stevenson has launched a dog care service with a difference. The former Glasgow Cat and Dog Home volunteer has created Canine Campus - a company which takes dogs for walks, runs fitness classses for overweight hounds and produces Dog Blogs' for owners who are on holiday and want to find out what their beloved pet has been up to.
Kelly Ann, from the Gorbals, worked in the animal welfare sector for 12 years but, following a placement at the Linda Leggat Grooming School, she decided she wanted to set up some form of animal - related firm of her own.
After securing funding from the Princes's Scottish Youth Business Trust, she launched Canine Campus earlier this year. The firm walks dogs and makes sure they are well cared for until it's time for them to go home, after lots of exercise and a spray of doggy perfume or aftershave.
Kelly Ann also looks after animals while their owners are on holiday and even posts an online diary for them so the owners can keep tabs on how their beloved pets are keeping in their absence.
Kelly Ann received help and support from GSERA's Enterprising Women team.
